THE WYLAND FOUNDATION
When it came time to choose the art for our new degradable bags Wyland — the world-renowned marine artist and environmentalist — was the perfect choice. As a result of our partnership one of Wyland’s famous seascapes will be featured on each of the three flavors of Whale Tails: the newly released Hawaiian barbecue will feature “Dawn of Creation,” the new blue corn flavor will feature “Orca Journey” and the original yellow corn will feature “Hawaii Endangered Species. Our partnership, however, goes far deeper than art. Both Whale Tails and Wyland have always held fast to their goals of, as the Wyland foundation mission statement describes it: “promoting, protecting, and preserving the world’s ocean, waterways, and marine life.”
IFAW
It’s “Crunch Time” for Our Oceans ..was the message eco snack entrepreneurs, Whale Tails Chips took to Washington DC. Whale Tails Tortilla Chips was invited to co sponsor the IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) congressional reception in the atrium of the US capitol building. Prior to the reception officials from IFAW, Pierce Brosnan, and his wife Keely Shaye Smith visited the White House to speak to cabinet members responsible for environmental and marine policy. Following the cabinet meeting at the White House, IFAW hosted the reception for members of Congress that was sponsored by Whale Tails Tortilla Chips, Blue Q, Island Press, and Lush to boost a new bill on whale preservation.
NRDC
On Friday March 5 a group of dedicated “Ocean Huggers and Whale Lovers” gathered to celebrate the combined effort that took place ten years ago in Laguna San Ignacio to protect the nursery for the Pacific Gray Whale. Invited guests commemorated what they had accomplished and to reaffirm their commitment to protect this valuable natural resource. The conservation group NRDC was well represented at the evenings event. Peter Lehner , Executive Director of the National Resource Defense Council D.C., was there to thank the attendees and to remind everyone that more work still needs to be done in preserving the rest of Laguna San Ignacio. The evening’s host Ms Rothman was glad to have Terry, our CEO, of Whale Tails Chips in attendance as well. Ms Rothman is a well known San Diego food writer, and chef and enjoys the fact that our company Whale Tails Chips not only gives back to ocean conservation but makes a delicious a simple, all natural, certified kosher and organic healthy snack alternative.

Sea Shepherd
On October 13, 2007 The Sea Shepherd held it’s 30th Anniversary Benefit in Santa Monica, California and it was a whale of a success. The event was made possible by the fact that Sea Shepherd had generous sponsors to underwrite the gala. The 30th Anniversary Sea Shepherd Benefit gala called Breaking the Ice, and hosted by Mick Jagger and Pierce Brosnan, began on time and the weather was beautiful. In the reception area, people were served Whale Tail Chips and provided with free drinks courtesy of Patron, Southern Wine and Spirits, Stella Artois, VeeV, Brown Foreman, Right Gin, POM tea and Fiji water.
In 2010 Whale Tails Chips donated and sent cases of our small bags of whale tail chips to Australia for the Sea Shepherd crews in preparation for another season of the popular Discovery Channel series “Whale Wars”.

Pro Peninsula Magdalena Bay – Baja California, Mexico
Whale Tails Tortilla Chips reached across the International Border when we made our first donation to benefit marine conservation. Chris Pesenti of Pro Peninsula accepted the generous donation from Ric Kraszewski co-founder of Whale Tails Tortilla Chips. Chris of Pro Peninsula sits on the board of directors of Solis’s Magdalena Baykeeper program in Baja California, Mexico. Chris was instrumental in putting Julio Solis and Whale Tails Tortilla Chips together. Rick Grant, “the other Rick,” put the word out to the Whale Tails Advisory board (made up of scientists, researchers, teachers, conservationists, retailers and customers) asking for suggestions on what individual or group should be considered for the first ten percent. After reviewing all the suggestions, the decision to go with Julio Solis seemed to be the best fit.
Julio Solis’s Magdalena Baykeeper (Vigilante de Bahía Magdalena) group Chris Pesenti said of Julio Solis’s Magdalena Baykeeper (Vigilante de Bahía Magdalena) group “I have been truly impressed with their works. Julio Solís is a longtime fisher and resident of Puerto San Carlos. He started the organization to confront the water pollution issues in Magdalena Bay. Magdalena Bay comprises one of the most important wetland ecosystems on the Pacific coast of North America. The bay provides shelter for Pacific Gray Whales to rear their young before making the long journey north to the Bering Sea. Julio Solis can definitely make a lot happen with a little bit of money.
Rick Grant, who has spent many years surfing and traveling in Baja Mexico, put it this way. “We told everyone we wanted to give this first ten percent to someone who has struggled to get their conservation effort off the ground, just like we have had to do with Whale Tails Tortilla Chips. We were able to relate to Julio’s request and then make it happen. Its the same type of help Whale Tails Tortilla Chips has received from retailers like Whole Foods Southern California, Jimbo’s Markets of San Diego, the Birch aquarium and small markets like Olive Tree Market in Pt. Loma and Peoples Organic Food Store in Ocean Beach.” Ric Kraszewski of Whale Tails Tortilla Chips said that “Chris met us when we had a prototype and a dream. He has watched both us and Julio grow and I feel grateful that he put us together.” Chris Pesenti’s group Pro Peninsula acted as a “pass through” organization. That means that a US organization receives the money and passes it on to the Mexican group. Chris Pesenti said, after receiving the donation, “both Whale Tails Tortilla Chips and Magadalena Baykeepers started with a desire to preserve our marine environment and I can’t think of a better place to join together in that effort than ‘Mag Bay’ the birthplace of our California Grey Whale.”
